Truffles Restaurant has been an enduring and iconic feature of Bruton since 1986. Now into its third reincarnation, following a sympathetic renovation by owners Richard and Barbara Sorapure, it offers a French themed ambiance with a modern twist. Four of the owners children assist amongst a dedicated team of nine including Chef Simon Barrington Jones and Sous Chef Leah Pitt to provide a special dining experience where the emphasis is on quality ingredients, careful cooking, innovation and value for money.
Truffles is now open all day (except Mondays) starting the day at 9am with a French style breakfast including a Québécoise (Poached egg, Toulouse sausage, tomatoes and pancakes with maple syrup), Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine, Eggs Royale or freshly baked croissants. The Brasserie menu is available from 12pm -2pm and features some set items augmented by a fixed price option and daily specials offering selections of freshly caught fish and seafood from Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.
A new innovation is that Truffles now offers afternoon teas from 2pm -6pm offering a fine range of Kandula teas and infusions from Sri Lanka and fresh roasted coffees from Bean Shot Coffee in Bruton. Leah makes a range of cakes, scones and a wonderful carrot cake.
Dinner at Truffles offers our Brasserie menu and our 'Taste-of-the-West' specials showcasing the very best the West Country has to offer. We are proud that 90% of our fresh produce is sourced from local farms and producers in Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.
Complimenting our menus is a well selected wine list including some lesser known wines from the Loire valley, such as Chinon, or you could try a classic Château Beau-Site, Saint Estèphe, 2004 or our excellent house champagne. The beer and cider drinker is not forgotten with a range of French bottled beers and ciders including the impressive Bière Geante or an amazingly complex Cidre Fermier from Normandy.
A diverse and carefully crafted selection of soft drinks, liquors and spirits confirms that Truffles is a surprisingly trend setting and modern restaurant despite the old world charm of its ancient beams. This small and intimate restaurant is perhaps the most romantic setting to discover epicurean delights.
"We have just had an excellent 3 course lunch, great food and a great price. The Prix Fixe lunch is fantastic! We had a choice of 3 starters, 4 mains and 3 puds. Our choices were all delicious. Service was good too. We highly recommend and will certainly be back."Catherine C
